2021 Construction Trends to Look Out For

Posted on January 22, 2021 by Rives Construction

Construction is a constantly evolving business. New trends and technologies are constantly making their way to the forefront, and 2021 will be no different.

Adaptability, especially in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, is a key trait for a successful construction business. With that in mind, let’s look at some trends that could define the construction industry in 2021

A Renewed Emphasis on Safety

Safety should always be top of mind for any construction company, but the year 2020 took that reality to a whole new level. With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, safety on jobsites and in the office became more important than ever. With social distancing and six feet of separation still the recommended health regulation, 2021 could mean smaller crews on jobsites and staggered shifts. Additionally, sharing of resourcessuch as personal protective equipmentwill likely continue to decline. Rives takes safety seriously and has worked since the beginning of the pandemic to ensure our team and anyone we work with is 100% protected at all times.

A Return to the Office

Even as COVID-19 continues to spread, there is optimism that vaccine distribution could push the world back to a sense of normalcy soon, which means remote work could become a thing of the past. With much of the American workforce hoping to return to a communal office space in 2021, we could see an increased demand for office space construction. Construction of office space could look noticeably different in 2021, as employers may look to lean toward more open spaces that cater to distancing standards and other safety protocols that have taken on a renewed importance in the wake of COVID-19.

A Continued Commitment to Technology

Technology is one of the biggest factors in construction today, and that will certainly continue in 2021.  New technologies are debuting daily, and companies that adopt and utilize those innovations are going to have a leg up on the competition. Drone technology, for example, is a rapidly growing trend in the construction industry and that is positioned to continue in 2021. A willingness to adapt and advance in lockstep with technological innovations is critical for the construction industry, as technology continues to make jobsites safer, more efficient and an overall better place to work.

Rives will continue to monitor construction trends throughout the year and will be prepared to adapt as necessary to meet client needs. If you have questions about a construction project, contact us today
